Gwent Boys Matchplay Championship which was played at Greenmeadow Golf Club on Monday/Tuesday 29th/30th October.
The course was in excellent condition for the time of year and the lack of leaves on the course enabled play to progress quite briskly in the chill autumn wind.
Having endured some very close matches on the Monday morning, two of which went to the 19th hole and one match being won on the 18th by 1 hole, the two finalists Harry Paterson and Cameron Powell progressed through their Monday afternoon rounds somewhat easier than their first rounds.
The final was an excellent match with Harry having established a lead of 2 up on the front 9. Cameron gradually clawed his way back to make the match all square at the start of the back 9. A decisive moment came at the par 4 16th hole when Cameron drove the green and sunk the putt for an eagle 2 putting him 1 up. Harry failed to get down in 2 from the fringe of the 17th green and Cameron won the match 2 & 1 and with it the Gwent Boys Matchplay Championship for 2018.
